The Importance of a Plan

Business plans are so common they are almost a dime a dozen. A simple Google search for “Business Plan template” yields over 51 million results alone. In the traditional sense, a business plan is a formal statement of business goals, reasons they are attainable, and plans for reaching them. They often include background information about the organization or team attempting to reach those goals (1). While there is nothing wrong with that definition on its face, I would add one statement, “Business plans are a great place to start but not the complete package.”

The overall structure of a business becomes the most important aspect as it ages. A start-up can survive in, what I call, a “garage band” structure. Only the core members are there, everyone plays every instrument regardless of skill, and you’re relying on the favors of others like playing in mom’s garage. As a business expands, it needs to have a structure so as not to collapse under its own weight as well as a plan for the ultimate future of the business and those involved.

A poorly designed business structure or a weak strategy is almost impossible to overcome. It can mean the difference between success and failure, or growth and stagnation. Engineering a powerful and optimal business structure is something that business owners looking to take the next step towards success are going to need help with and is something a business consultant cannot do on their own. A business re-engineering company would work with management and create a powerful operations improvement plan. This creates an organized structure, adds value and plans for the future of the business.

Partnership with a business re-engineering organization will help business owners take their organizations to the next step towards success.
